December 7th, 2023: Opening Session

In the clip below, the IFPMA representative provides the Pharmaceutical Industry perspective on the negotiations. There is an ongoing tension in the public side of the discussions between Pharma, which would like to protect IP, and equity.

It is ironic that Pharma is invited to speak the WGIHR and provide advice, but we the people are not.

The press release below is IFPMA’s statement about the Pandemic Treaty process, but the statements are reflected in the representative’s comments at WGIHR-6 two months later.

December 8th, 2023: Closing Session.

The Delegate from Monaco questions the Co-Chair from New Zealand as to whether they will abide by the “four month rule.”

According to Article 55 of the current IHR(2005), all proposed amendments must be circulated to all states four months prior to the consideration at the WHA.

This was also reinforced in the decision called A75(9) which led to the WGIHR beginning its work.
