The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, sent a letter to organizations engaged in negotiating as part of the Africa Group in the WHO. This letter, first published by Geneva Health Files, has created a stir, perhaps because it advises the block of countries to continue to negotiate in a unified manner. This unified approach to negotiating could disrupt the objectives of the US and Europe.
“When the world faces a complex global shock, we must ensure that all parts of the multilateral system are accountable for contributing to a collective response. No single agency exists to gather stakeholders in the event of complex global shocks. The United Nations is the only organization that can fulfil this role.”…
The House approved H.R. 4665, the Fiscal Year 2024 Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, including the provision that, “None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be made available for the World Health Organization.”…
