PETE KENNEDY

Attorney Pete Kennedy explores the legal challenges surrounding access to raw milk and local meat production in his talk, “Regulatory Obstacles for Raw Milk and Local Meat: Efforts to Overcome.”

As Executive Director of the Food Freedom Foundation, Kennedy details how FDA regulations, particularly the 1987 ban on interstate raw milk sales, have limited food freedom. Despite this federal restrictions, 47 states now allow the sale or distribution of raw milk, often when labelled as pet food.

Kennedy also highlights the loss of local slaughterhouses due to federal laws and discusses legislative efforts like the Prime Act to expand local meat sales. With growing demand for raw milk and local food, states can pass favorable laws to enable food sovereignty.
